Buckner to Hold Back-to-School Event to Provide Free Resources to Local Families Jul 20, 2022

CHICAGO – The Office of State Representative Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is partnering with Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, Inc., a leading provider of government-sponsored managed care services in Illinois; Near North Health; and HFC to host a back-to-school event to provide local families with free resources before the school year starts. The event will be held at Ellis Park, on 3520 South Cottage Grove in Chicago on Tuesday, August 16, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry, state Sen. Robert Peters and Alderwoman Sophia King are co-hosting.

“Especially with prices of everyday necessities on the rise due to recent spikes in inflation, it’s vital that community institutions, small businesses and public servants work together to help our neighbors,” Buckner said. “Thanks to such extensive participation from my colleagues, this event will help get kids the school supplies they need, and parents the financial and medical literacy they need, free of charge. I encourage everyone to attend.”

The event will feature free resources, such as immunizations, health screenings, health education, and social services; free giveaways, such as backpacks, food bags, and gift cards; and free activities, such as face painting, arts and crafts, and financial literacy programs. Parents or guardians must be present to give consent for immunizations for minors. Registration is strongly recommended. Visit illinois26.com to register.
