CHICAGO – Keeping in mind the unique challenges residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia and their families are facing, state Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is promoting additional support resources from the Alzheimer’s Association during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The COVID-19 health crisis has many of us feeling extra stress and anxiety that can be tough to handle, especially for the caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia,” Buckner said. “This pandemic has put extra pressure on these caregivers and has challenged them in unexpected ways. These additional resources from the Alzheimer’s Association are invaluable.”
Buckner is highlighting new resources that are available through the Alzheimer’s Association to help residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia and their caregivers and loved ones during COVID-19, including a free helpline available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 800-272-3900. Other available resources include: • ALZConnected, an online community for those living with dementia and their family members at alzconnected.org • Webinars with information for caregivers at alzwebinars.org • On-demand education programs and training courses at training.alz.org
Support groups and care consultation can be accessed by calling the helpline and additional information related to COVID-19 can be found at alz.org/COVID19.
“No one should have to face Alzheimer’s or dementia alone, and especially during such uncertain times in the midst of a pandemic,” Buckner said. “I highly encourage caregivers and family members of those with dementia to take advantage of these free resources to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe and healthy.”
